“Euro, Euro Bill Y’all”
There’s much talk online about Jay-Z’s new video in which he drives around Harlem while stacks of 500 Euro bills are flashed for the camera. Some see it as the latest sign of the dollar’s decline due to the fed’s continuing campaign of cutting interest rates. Notes Me-Fi commenter chef_boyardee: “Any REAL gangsta hedging against recession will be coming full circle to what [Jay-Z] did in the 1990s: flashing the gold chains, not dabbling in fiat currency.” Good call. And I’d also like to point out that “Euro, Euro Bill Y’all” doesnt quite have the same ring to it. from the fantastic WFMU’s Beware of the Blog
Radiohead DRM-free “box-set”
Jim sez, “EMI/Parlophone are offering the first 7 Radiohead albums as a CD box set, digital download, and 4GB USB stick. The download contains 320 kbps DRM-free MP3s, the USB stick contains cd-quality WAV files.”
Man, this band has come a long way since the days when they insisted that their fans were only supposed to listen to their albums one side at a time, with no shuffling, singles or tracks allowed! Link (Thanks, Jim!)
Pat Riley on “The Disease of More”
In his book “Showtime,” Pat Riley unveiled “the disease of more” and argued that “success is often the first step toward disaster.” According to Riley, after the 1980 Lakers won, everyone shifted into a more selfish mode. They had sublimated their respective games to win as a group; now they wanted to reap the rewards as individuals, even if those rewards meant having to spend way too much time at Jack Nicholson’s house. Everyone wanted more money, playing time and recognition. Eventually they lost perspective and stopped doing the little things that make teams win and keep winning, eventually imploding in the first round of the postseason. So much for defending the title.
