Oh no. Say it isn’t so. I will put this to the test once my Tivo updates. I will definitely be building a PC running BeyondTV very soon. I will miss you Tivo.

Even more…this is going to be a huge story.

  1. First off, this is not due to the 7.2 update. This is one of the requirements for TiVo’s MacroVision license, and it has been in the OS since before 7.2. This isn’t even the first time I’ve seen someone report an erroneously flagged show. I don’t know why everyone got the idea this is new - can’t be bothered to research I guess.

This is also not unique to TiVo - ReplayTV signed the same license a year before they did. And other DVRs have it too - MacroVision support is widespread. It is required to legally support DVDs, for example. You may find it in PC based DVR software too. If you want to avoid it, MythTV and FreeVo are definitely safe.

This story is a year old, at least, and not people freak?

  2. I agree. The simple fact that they are old shows makes me not care one bit. And by the time this really implemented further, if it ever does, we will have different solutions like iptv.

  3. Not surprisingly, I think this is despicable. All the more argument to go with a more free (in multiple senses of the word) DVR solution.

  4. I still have not seen this yet on my series 2 tivo. I will check it out tonight. I agree that this is despicable. I’m ready to start selling Myth TV boxes in the BestBuy parking lot ASAP. Need to figure out the minimum config. to calculate the costs etc. for buinding a bare bones set up. I have Beyond TV on my PC and I’m pretty happy with it. Not ready to haul it into the living room, but getting ready to build something small for this purpose.

  5. Still have not seen the flag. Here is an update on the story though:
